Whats in the Future? The layout is now (2007) 21 years old. The scenery is all in, and is at times, revised and replaced, and the track has changed at times, mostly in yards and industrial areas, but it is basically the same design and plan that was conceived back in the 80's. The layout (along with the garden railroad in the backyard) have been on tour numerous times for both NMRA functions, Garden Railroad functions and other non rail groups. In 1998, the layout was featured at the NMRA National in Kansas City. It is also shown for Mid Continent meets at Kansas City, for yearly Santa Fe Modelers mini meets in Kansas City, and for the Turkey Creek Div. yearly meets. If weather permits both the HO and garden railroad are open. The HO layouts, both the old Mojave Western and the current Santa Fe were instrumental in helping me earn the NMRA Master Model Railroader awards and certificates and served as testbeds. Now in semi-retirement, they have provided me with enough to do to keep from getting bored. I still update the existing layouts, as nothing remains static in life. However, the additions to diesels and cars inventories is slowed way down. In fact, the only new diesels I would consider purchasing would be GP39-2 Santa Fe’s in any of the 3 models. Hopefully Atlas will jump on this. Additional rolling stock updates will be rare in the future as the railroad and the staging shelves are overflowing now. Visitors are welcome, but please contact me in advance. My schedule doesn’t permit me to be available for those who show up unannounced. |
